Insightful Tarot Reading: 7 Ways to Get Your Best Reading

Insightful tarot readings don’t just happen. It takes a good reader and a good client. Have you every come out of a tarot reading and wondered, “What did I even pay for?” Here are 8 ways you can get the best tarot reading for your money.
What does an insightful tarot reading involve?
Typically, a reader asks you to focus on your questions. He or she will then shuffle and draw cards. The style of a reader is very personal. Some spread the cards in a certain fashion and tell you what shows up. Others may draw cards in a seeming random array. Most will ask questions to help them interpret specifics, but most all readers can draw some general conclusions just from looking at the cards.
Your relationship and interaction with your reader matter a lot. If you are not “feeling it,” then the reading will probably not go very well.

1. Clear your anxiety
Being as calm as possible will simply keep energy flowing. If you are overly skeptical (skepticism is fine) you may prevent your reader from tapping into you. Do your best to help your body feel calm and peaceful.
Slow, conscious belly breathing really helps both heartrate and intrusive thoughts.
Smells may help. Smells always help my anxiety. Insense or an oil diffuser can give you a smell that keeps you calm. When I was teaching, I would often use lavender scented oil warmers to add to a calm vibe. When students walked in, they would smell it and smile. While some students are sensitive to smells, I never had a student say it smelled bad or “stank.” the lavender calmed us both.

2. Prepare with clear questions beyond “yes” and “no”
Think of the following approaches to your questions: who, what, where, when, and how.
Who: An insightful tarot reading can tell you who is coming forward to leaving. They may not be able to identify a name, but they can identify significant males or females moving in or out of your sphere.
What: An insightful tarot reading can bring forward what seems to be holding you back, or what do you not see. Expect and prepare some “what” questions that could be helpful to you.
Where: Asking where on your path that you think an event might happen could be helpful. I have known tarot reader who could do geographical identification. Not every reader can, but it is a possibility. You can, however, ask questions about your movement.
When: Give grace for this. When is, in my opinion, tough. Free will makes this hardly an exact science. By the mere fact that you are getting a reading could change the current trajectory of the timing. Again, be open minded.
How: Asking how an event may come about is a perfectly acceptable question. Tarot cards often lend themselves to answering “how” you may meet your next partner, or “how” you need to proceed with something.

3. Be open minded
An insightful tarot reading cannot happen if you do not open your mind. You may come in contact with information that is just not at all what you expected. I’ve had clients levee me rude reviews because I told them the truth instead of just what they wanted to hear. Only to have that same client return later with an apology.
I always tell clients that readings have nothing to do with me. It is the clients spirit team who is guiding the reading. It is perfectly fine to not accept the message at first.

4. Write down everything
You may think you will remember what you are told, but most probably won’t. I know that I don’t remember everything from any reading, much less an insightful tarot reading.
If you want to record the reading, make sure you have permission. Some readers do not allow recordings, especially because they do not want to get in their ego. Insightful tarot readings stay focused on your message, not how the reader sounds.

5. Focus on yourself, not your reader
An insightful tarot reading is always focused on YOU. If your reader is not focused on you and your message, but instead it is focused on your reader, you may need another reader.
There is one caveat to that: at times, a reader ( I know this includes me) will get a message through spirits or guides, and it will come through the reader’s memory. Spirits and guides will send a reader whatever they need to in order to elicit a specific message.
For example, once I was giving a reading, and I started remembering my grandmother’s kitchen. I asked, “Why am I remembering my grandmother’s kitchen? I keep seeing her kitchen table.” The client was asking in the reading about her grandmother.

6. Avoid distractions
You want to have your best reading, so be in a place where you can really focus and listen. For this reason, I do not do in-person readings. I don’t bring people to my home, and I don’t have a place without distractions to meet clients.
Can you get an insightful tarot reading with distractions? Definitely! However, you are paying for the best reading you can get. Give yourself the best opportunity by being in a place that doesn’t take away from your experience.
Get your reading at a time when everyone is away. I used to go to my closet to do readings when my kids were small. It wasn’t ideal, but it was the best I could do. Fewer distractions = clearer, faster messages.

7. Listen to your gut or intuition
An insightful tarot reading includes your intuition. How do you feel about your reader? Is your intuition telling you that you resonate well together? If you’re not “feeling it,” then you may want to look for another reader. If you can’t release your feelings and allow the energy of the reading to flow, you’ll not get your best reading.
Conclusion
Remember that an insightful tarot reading is not meant to control your future. It can reveal patterns, possibilities, obstacles, and opportunities that may help you make better decisions. The cards can offer guidance, but you still have the power to choose what happens next.
Before scheduling your reading, take a little time to prepare yourself and your surroundings. Write down your questions, remove as many distractions as possible, and choose a reader whose style and energy feel right to you. During the session, listen carefully, take notes, and trust your own intuition.
An insightful tarot reading should leave you feeling clearer, stronger, and more capable of moving forward. You are not paying someone to make your choices for you. You are investing in a new perspective that may help you recognize what you already know deep within yourself.
