Eclipse Season: 5 Powerful Truths to Know

Eclipses have a spiritual meaning, and eclipse seasons hold strong spiritual energy. Explore here the meaning behind these cosmic events.
Possibly every metaphysical or spirituality follower has eclipse season videos and information pop up in his/her news feed every year. We hear about solar eclipses and lunar eclipses as affecting us, but many of us don’t really know why eclipses are important.
You may (as I have) ask the questions:
- What am I looking for during an eclipse?
- What should I expect?
- Are all eclipses the same?
- Why should I care?
I shall attempt to explain the answers to these questions and more as we explore the spiritual and physical meanings behind eclipses and eclipse season.

What is eclipse season?
Two times a year, we have what is called an “Eclipse season.” Eclipse season occurs roughly every six months. Each season lasts about 30-35 days, so it is called a “season.” Eclipse season repeats every 173 days which is slightly less than every six months. A season typically includes one solar eclipse and one lunar eclipse. Sometimes it may include three depending of the alignment of the Earth, Sun, and Moon.
If you look up the etymology of the word “eclipse” it has its origin in ancient Greece. Greeks used the word ekleipsis which meant “abandonment” or “failure to appear.” The Greek prefix ek- means “out.” Add that to leipein which means to leave and you end up with “to leave out” or “to be absent.”

Why is eclipse season important?
Eclipses are important because it is believed that they create big feelings.
Additional gravitational pull occurs with the alignment of the earth, moon and sun. The wateryness of the earth is pulled by the gravity of the sun and moon combined.
And what are humans mostly made of?
Water.
We are to a greater or lesser extent about 70% water. Thus it makes logical sense that eclipses can make us fee off or different in a physical sense.

How does eclipse season affect us otherwise?
Water signifies emotions. It is very typical for us to feel especially emotional during eclipses. The water around us and the water in us is being tugged.
What do I do during an eclipse?
Eclipses are great for letting go.
Lunar eclipses happen when there is a full moon. The earth obscures the moon or comes exactly between the sun and the moon. That means you’ve got the Sun pulling one way and the Moon pulling another when the Moon has its strongest pull. Tides are often more exagerated when there is a full moon.
So, imagine…
The Earth sits between the Sun and the Moon. The Sun, with its size, pulls strongly. The Moon, at its height of illumination and proximity, exerts its strongest pull. Thus, we can get an intense wobble within us that can make us especially emotional.
Solar eclipses happen when the Moon comes between the Earth and the Sun. When the Moon obscures the Sun, it reduces the Sun’s pull. We feel the pull of the Moon, but it is not exacerbated by the Sun.

What do I do during an eclipse?
I can only think of two main things to do.
- Be aware that your emotions may be exaggerated or out of sync with what they usually are. Something that usually irritates you, like traffic, may cause you to react more strongly than you like.
- Because full Moons bring to light what has been hidden, use the eclipse time to move within yourself (meditation or introspection) and allow the exaggerated eclipse energy to help you evaluate what needs to be released. Do you have a secret? Maybe you need to let it go and stop holding on to it. Maybe there is a truth here that you are not allowing yourself to see.
Eclipses give us a nudge out of sync with our everyday life. They are not evil, and they are not magical. Like many things in our universe, they have been given to us to help us on our path. So, pay attention to your heart as you look up at the sky.
