9 Solfeggio Frequencies and Their Alluring Benefits for Sound Therapy
Solfeggio frequencies have been around since the Middle Ages. These tones were originally used throughout the Hymn to St. John the Baptist, with each line carrying a specific vibrational quality that cultivated healing and awareness among participants. In the 1970s, these seven frequencies were rediscovered and expanded upon.
Dr. Joseph Puleo identified and expanded the scale to nine frequencies using numerology and Pythagorean principles. He developed the modern understanding and use of the Solfeggio scale. Today, they are used in sound therapy to support balance, healing, and spiritual connection.
Although their history links these frequencies to sacred music, they are now widely used in meditation, sound therapy, and holistic practices to support the body, mind, and spirit in addressing life events and stagnation.
In my work as a sound and energy practitioner, I have come to understand that these are not simply tones but gentle guides for balance for those ready to receive them. Each one carries a distinct quality that I can feel throughout a session. Some softly settle into the body, some help support emotional release, and others bring deep peace. I have learned over time that sound will meet people where they are, neither too much nor too little.
What Are the Solfeggio Frequencies?
The traditional Solfeggio scale includes seven frequencies, often associated with the energetic centers (chakras), each with specific benefits.
- 369 Hz – Associated with the root chakra and represents stability, grounding, and the release of guilt. I observed in sessions that this helps clients feel more present in their bodies, eases their breathing, and brings peace to their minds.
- 417 Hz – Aligned with the sacral chakra, this frequency relates to creativity, change, and the processing of life. When someone feels emotionally stuck or is transitioning in their life, I find that this frequency invites a gentle flow and calm for the client.
- 528 Hz – Associated with the solar plexus and linked to transformation and empowerment. This is your self-confidence center. Many of my clients find this calming and balancing, and it has become a staple in every sound therapy session I facilitate. Let’s be honest, we could all use a boost in self-confidence.
- 639 Hz – Connected to the heart chakra, this frequency supports relationships, emotional connection, and compassion. I use this when there is grief, loss, or a need for forgiveness. This frequency speaks to the heart, allowing it to heal. The healing harmonizes the body and brings it back to a place of love and acceptance.
- 741 Hz – Aligned with the throat chakra and used to deepen communication, self-expression, and intuition. In practice, this frequency can feel like you are creating room for truth to be expressed while old energy is cleared from your being.
- 852 Hz – This frequency deepens spiritual awareness and can help awaken your intuition, and is related to the third eye. We are all intuitive, but sometimes we need a little more help cultivating the safe space to explore it. When you do that through frequency, it can bring a sense of clarity or inner vision that was not there before.
- 963 Hz – Associated with the crown chakra and linked to transformation and empowerment. I prefer to use this toward the end of a session, when the energy feels ready to expand and integrate with my client.
Together, these frequencies create complete physical and energetic harmony that is often missing. Each of these can be used individually or together, like stepping stones, to support balance and renewal.
Additional Solfeggio Frequencies Used in Sound Therapy
We have explored the original seven frequencies of the Solfeggio scale, but we must also explore the two additional frequencies added by Dr. Puleo. These frequencies are used for their supportive qualities at the physical and cellular level. I often weave them into my energy and sound sessions to further support my clients.

- 174 Hz – This is one of my favorite frequencies, as it is known to reduce pain, ease tension, and support the nervous system during times of stress. In my own journey of healing, I work with 174 Hz coupled with energy work to manage symptoms of CRPS. Through consistent practice and intention, this frequency has become my primary sound ally, allowing my body to gently shift out of chronic guarding and enabling me to be active again with fewer flare-ups. Please know I share this not as a promise, but as a lived experience. This is one example of how sound, when paired with intention and readiness, can become a meaningful part of your healing journey.
- 285 Hz – This frequency in session is sometimes used when the intention is to bring awareness and support to the physical body, especially during periods of recovery and renewal. It is recognized in the field of sound to support organ health, wound healing, and cellular regeneration.
The Use of Solfeggio Frequencies in Energy and Sound Work
Solfeggio frequencies are often woven into my energy sessions to support the body’s natural ability to rebalance. I use tuning forks with selected frequencies within the energetic field, guided awareness, and meditations. They are always available if you are seeking deeper attunement and harmony.
What I have observed is how sound helps energy work settle softly and deeply within my clients. In addition to my intuitive techniques, I use sound to create rhythm in my work. This gives the nervous system something steady to respond to, allowing a release that shifts clients into feelings of safety and balance.
Each session is unique. Some clients are agitated by a specific frequency, whereas others are unaffected. At times, a single frequency is sufficient to achieve harmony. At other times, I feel the need to flow through frequencies as the body integrates, releases, and brings other areas requiring attention to the surface. I listen closely to the sound, energy, and client, trusting that the right vibration will make itself known.

Solfeggio Frequencies in Wellness
The scale is used in sound therapy to support alignment of the body’s energetic centers. Solfeggio frequencies do not focus on symptoms. Instead, they support your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
For many, sound serves as a doorway to inner awareness. It creates a breath, or pause, so you can reconnect with the subtle rhythms already at work within your body. In my experience, when sound and intention are used together, clients feel more grounded and at home within themselves. The buzz of oddness or seclusion fades as they become more aware and understanding of themselves.
While understanding each frequency individually can be powerful, experiencing them within a sound bath often allows the body to receive their full depth in a more integrated and supportive way.
