Energy Healing : 3 Things You Should Know

As an energy healing practitioner, I am asked questions concerning the session. These include questions about preparation, expectations during the session, and expectations after the session. Let’s examine these three topics to help you gain insight into maximizing your energy healing session.

Preparation

The first thing you should do is drink plenty of water 24 hours in advance. Our bodies consist of about 60% water! Having the proper fluid level within our body helps the energy move throughout our body with less resistance. Think of it as sandbars in the ocean or a cliff face that blocks the ocean tide. Another critical point is to refrain from drug or alcohol use within that same time frame. These can dehydrate and lower your vibration, preventing you from receiving the most effective and potent session. Finally, be sure you are in comfortable clothing. If you get cold quickly, wear layers to be in the most relaxed and comfortable state possible.

During Your Session

There are many ways to perform an energy session, such as sitting, lying, or through distance. No matter how the energy session is performed, these tips are beneficial. Keep in mind that energy sessions require little, if any, touch. So do not enter with expectations of a massage or hands-on treatment.

When seated for your session, your spine should be erect, your hands and arms relaxed, and your feet planted firmly on the ground. If lying down, you will be in the supine position (on your back) on a cushioned table. Again, the point is to be relaxed in this position, so if you are cold and need a blanket, let your energy worker know! Maximum comfort for the maximum benefit of treatment. If your session is over distance, you get to select your most comfortable position; just be sure to relay your positioning to your practitioner.

Before a session begins, I ask if there are specific intentions or requests for certain areas of healing. Once discussed, I ask that you set the intention of acceptance. This works through your subconscious mind, allowing your body to accept energy-healing assistance. The benefits will be significantly reduced if your intentions are skeptical and doubtful, so always be mindful of your thoughts.

During the session, your mind may wander, but that is okay. Emotional situations often arise, and you may begin to express those emotions as you work through them energetically. This is a beautiful and expected process. The energy work gets at the root causes of physical and mental limitations, helping reset your body’s healing abilities and opening you to self-acceptance.

Some may even fall asleep during the process. This indicates they are in a deep state of healing, allowing the energy to flow without overburdening their conscious mind. However you react to your energy session, I assure you it is the best way for you! Each session is unique to the individual, as are our experiences through life.

I often lead my clients in a grounding exercise and provide affirmations for different areas of work. This is known as shadow work, or working on your “shadow self” that stays hidden from society. Your shadow self creates the emotional stability or instability in your life. These methods assist clients in healing themselves, with the goal of them no longer needing external assistance.

Often, clients tell me they experience tingling sensations in the areas being worked on. They also state that it feels as if I physically touch them. Be assured that I do not physically touch any of my clients. This, instead, is the energy coursing through you!

Now That it Has Ended

You should know a few things after you have concluded your energy healing session. Water is your best friend! Drink plenty of water over the next few days so your body better acclimates to the new energy provided during the session. Common symptoms associated with energy healing are nausea, headache, lightheadedness, and tiredness. These should subside within 2-3 days as you continue to perform your affirmations and ground.

The benefits of an energy healing session include improved emotional state and sleep, increased energy, circulation, and connection with others, and decreased pain, stress, and anxiety. These are just a few of the benefits backed by scientific studies. As always, do your research before engaging in any healing practice.

Do not be surprised when memories and feelings resurface from past events. As they come up, it is essential to work through those moments with the intent of releasing them. If you request that your 6th chakra or third eye be unlocked, you may notice that colors are brighter, nature seems more vibrant and inviting, or your metaphysical gifts become more apparent. These are all positive outcomes of an energy session and should not be feared. Know that you are growing as a physical and spiritual being.
