Learn to Love Yourself: 3 Spiritual Practices for Healing and Protection

The pursuit to learn to love yourself is a journey that requires patience, compassion, and awareness. In a world filled with outside expectations and emotional overwhelm, it can be easy to lose connection with yourself and your inner peace.

One of the most important parts of self-love is protecting your energy, grounding your emotions, and creating healthy energetic boundaries. When we care for ourselves spiritually and emotionally, we create space for confidence, healing, and inner balance.

Learning to love yourself is also about recognizing that your needs, emotions, and energy matter. Many people have spent years placing themselves last or criticizing themselves harshly. Self-compassion allows you to begin healing those patterns and reconnect with your worth on a deeper level.

Let us explore three spiritual self-love practices to help you learn to love yourself more deeply.

Learn to love yourself surrounded by love and light

Learn to Love Yourself by Surrounding Yourself with Light and Love

Need help in boosting self-love? Then, stop comparing yourself to someone else. We are all unique individuals and will never look, sound, or live in the same reality as others. Each of us has a reason why we are alive during this time—special and unique missions that only your soul can perform. When you compare yourself to another, you decrease your energetic boundaries, creating cracks and allowing negativity to enter.

Instead, you should focus mentally on surrounding yourself with light and love. I achieve this by mentally visualizing myself surrounded by a white light filled with love and compassion. This egg-shaped light bubble surrounds me, extending 3 to 6 feet in all directions. This is my barrier against the outside world, allowing me ample time to process my emotions about the situations I encounter and the feelings that may bubble up.

This practice is not about shutting yourself away from the world. It is about creating a safe emotional space where you can honor your feelings without absorbing the weight of everyone else’s energy. When you begin protecting your peace, you also begin learning that your emotional well-being deserves care and respect.

Learn to Love Yourself by Protecting Your Energy

We have all heard about, read about, or watched vampires on television. Did you know that people can energetically drain you, much like those vampires previously mentioned do with their substance of choice? Some would look outside themselves for sustainability rather than inward.

It can be difficult to recognize when someone is energetically draining you. Instead, these are people we encounter and who leave us utterly exhausted. This exhaustion is different from normal physical or mental fatigue. It is a deep, energetic exhaustion that settles into the body. Physical contact, such as handshaking, holding, hugging, or other close bodily contact, probably occurred.

Many people who struggle with self-worth unknowingly overextend themselves emotionally. They give endlessly to others while ignoring their own exhaustion. Learning to love yourself sometimes means recognizing when you need rest, boundaries, and time to recharge without guilt.

These situations open your energy field to that person, allowing them to seep through the cracks and siphon your energy. Protecting your energy is an act of self-respect. Healthy boundaries are not about rejecting others; they are about honoring your own emotional and spiritual well-being. Much like how we create boundaries by preventing people from entering our homes uninvited, we can do the same with our energy fields.

In addition to your egg-shaped light bubble, you can ask your angels for protection whenever you leave the house.

See, angels are a phenomenal way to protect yourself, but they cannot intervene unless you ask them to. That means you must let them know you need protection as you leave the house. It is as simple as it seems. Set forth the intention of protection and ask your angels to help. This is how I phrase it, but you can and should adapt it to what feels right for you.

“Thank you, Angels, for protecting me as I leave my home today. I ask that you keep me safe from those with negative thoughts or intentions and protect me from harm while I am out.”

Grounding

Grounding Practices to Help You Learn to Love Yourself

Learning to love yourself also means giving yourself permission to rest, reflect, and honor your emotions without judgment. Self-love is not selfish; it is the foundation that allows you to move through life with greater peace, clarity, and compassion.

Now that you know how to protect yourself outside the home, let’s discuss how to release the energies you have encountered. To do this, you must remember to ground yourself. In this state, you become present in the moment and release the energies that do not serve you.

One quick method is rooting. Find a place where you can be alone, then take a few deep breaths that bring awareness to your body. As you breathe, envision your roots growing into the earth beneath you. Then, imagine the negative energy traveling down the roots and being released to Earth for transmutation. This is how you release the energies that do not serve your higher purpose.

Grounding also reminds you to reconnect with yourself rather than becoming lost in stress, fear, or external expectations. When you slow down and return to the present moment, you create space to hear your own inner voice with greater clarity and compassion.

But how does this help you love yourself? When we carry around a lot of negative energy, our energy barrier shifts, attracting more negative thoughts and actions. This causes us to see ourselves and the world around us as much less appealing.

When you release these energies, it is like clearing your vision and seeing the world you truly live in. It’s opening your eyes to a bright sun that reflects brighter colors around you, elevating your mood and awareness. When you practice this regularly, the gunky energies that bring our mental state down dissipate, allowing a cascade of positive energy to flow. This renewed energy often feels lighter, calmer, and filled with love.

Inner healing is often a gradual process. Some days, learning to love yourself may feel easy, while other days may feel more challenging. What matters most is choosing to meet yourself with patience instead of judgment. Small moments of compassion toward yourself can create powerful emotional transformation over time.
