Christian Psychic: 6 Questions for A Bold Biblical Perspective

Christian psychic

Can you be a Christian and a Psychic?

The answer is a resounding โ€œYes.โ€ Our Holy Scriptures are filled with mysticism.

I personally know the following to be true with respect to Christian psychics:

  • Many tarot readers look to God and his angels for guidance and revelation. Ever hear of Angel cards?
  • Ministers send parishioners to psychics whom they trust to give help and advice.
  • Many very devout Christians believe in the spiritual world for a variety of reasons.
  • Many very devout Christians donโ€™t feel comfortable asking cringy questions to their ministers, pastors, or priests for a variety of reasons.

Therefore, Christians are using psychics in our modern day. Yet, our most holy scriptures tell us several times to avoid psychics.

Scripture and a Christian Psychic: Psychic or Not?

There are indeed several incidents in the Bible that tell a specific story about the perils of consulting a psychic. One such book often quoted by Christians (who discount the usefulness of a Christia Psychic) is Leviticus. I propose that we should read the scriptures through the lens in which they were written. For example, Leviticus is an Old Testament book that reveals Godโ€™s profound desire for intimacy with humanity despite their imperfections. Leviticus 19:31 commands, โ€œDo not turn to mediums or seek our spiritualists, for you will be defiled by themโ€(NIV).

What a very clear statement!

How Should Christians View a Christian Psychic?

Christians and non-Christians alike acknowledge that the Old Testament establishes the history of humanityโ€™s relationship with Him, and it lays the foundation for the coming of Jesus Christ. The announcement of the coming of Christ was conveyedโ€ฆhow? In a prophecy. Isnโ€™t that the same as a psychic prediction?

How is that true?

It is true first of all because the first prophecy of Jesus is attributed to God in Genesis 3:15, spoken to the serpent. It promises that the womanโ€™s offspring (Jesus) will destroy the serpent (Satan). Isnโ€™t that a message revealed in a psychic experience? Who was told that God told this to the serpent?

Some say Moses wrote Genesis via divine inspiration. Yet modern scholars say it was compiled from multiple sources during the Babylonian exile. That says to me that we donโ€™t exactly know who wrote it, but it is agreed that this verse and others like it in the same book were conveyed, not in person, but as a psychic messageโ€“God to man (or woman). Man then wrote it down.

Second of all, in the same book, another example of an early psychically conveyed message is revealed. In Genesis 12:3 God speaks to Abraham and promises that all nations will be blessed through his offspring. Who โ€œspokeโ€ to him? God.  Did God speak to him as a human to human. No. Did God pull Abraham up to heaven and have a โ€œsitdownโ€ with him, then deposit him back on the earth. No.

Abraham had a spiritual experience and heard a message from God. It was spiritually conveyed in a spiritual elaborate method. Spiritual experiences begin early in the Holy Bible and psychic predictions do, too.

What are the Modern Day Thoughts about Christian Psychics?

Modern-day Christians typically do not see themselves as bound by the laws of Leviticus. Christians who read the Bible know that the Old Testament is the history of Christendom explained. Yet, once Jesusโ€™s life and passing occurred, we modern Christians moved beyond those strict laws. In addition, the book of Leviticus is often criticized for its heavy, outdated laws that many followers now acknowledge as archaic. It contains passages that marginalize disabled people from being priests, and it promotes a legalistic view of holiness (to name a couple).

So, What is the New Testament View of a Christian Psychic?

Several scriptures are used to answer this question.

Scripture: In Galatians 5:19-21, Paul lists โ€œsorceryโ€ as a โ€œwork of the flesh.โ€ This involves using tricks to create a spiritual communication.

Christian Psychic: A Christian psychic and a person who uses sorcery can be completely different. They can be the same, but not necessarily. Just because someone is a psychic does not mean he/she uses any kind of magic, white, black, or otherwise. Personally, if anything seems like any energetic manipulation, I do not partake.

Scripture: The doctrine of most Christian groups states that any power that is not from God is sourced from familiar spirits or demonic influences.

Christian Psychic: Many psychics communicate with angels and other angelic beings, which includes those that are on that heavenly plane. I myself never deal with anything demonic or any familiar spirits. The high vibration of the heavenly realm is vastly different from that of a demon or familiar spirit. Many us just canโ€™t of us go into that low vibration.

Scripture: Relying on psychic abilities is seen as a lack of trust in Godโ€™s guidance and providence.

Christian Psychic: I canโ€™t disagree here. Sometimes, people can become a psychic junkie, moving from one psychic to another seeking answers.  If someone becomes a psychic junkie, that may be the same as any other addiction. That is what the Bible would identify as putting a psychicโ€™s message above Godโ€™s message. Because of Jesus, we are supposed to be able to communicate with God ourselves. If we are calming our thoughts and listening to that still small voice, we can hear His spirit speak. However, if we are struggling and need a little boost, a reading from a Christian Psychic can help someone move forward in a spiritual life.

Scripture: The Holy Spirit is the giver of prophecy. The gift it brings is to glorify God and strengthen those in the church. It is not for manipulation.

Christian Psychic: Again, not too much with which to disagree here. We should help people to move forward in this life, just like Jesus tried to do.

Scripture: The scriptures say to test the spirits.

1 John 4 says, โ€œBeloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already.

Christian Psychic: There you have it. Test each spirit!! If you speak to a psychic, use your God-given powers of wisdom and discernment and judge if that psychic is there for your highest good. If, during your reading, you feel like he/she is not helping you through truth, move on. If a psychic tells you they must do a spell, move on. If, as a Christian, you are told that you have a curse on you, move on. Let those readers go. Look to find one that brings you godly truths and leads you to peace.

You need to try and see yourself as empowered as a Christian; you are not a victim. All has been conquered.

Discernment

Walking in Discernment: Psychic Ability vs. A Spiritual Gift

One of the biggest misunderstandings in the conversation around a Christian psychic is the confusion between psychic ability and spiritual gifts given by God.

The Bible clearly teaches that God gives spiritual gifts to His people. These include discernment, prophecy, wisdom, and knowledge. These are not abilities rooted in ego or controlโ€”they are rooted in serving others and glorifying God.

So whatโ€™s the difference?

A psychic operating outside of faith may seek answers through external tools, energies, or unknown sources. But a Christian psychicโ€”when aligned with Christ Consciousnessโ€”functions from a place of divine connection, prayer, and surrender to Godโ€™s will.

Discernment is key.

Scripture encourages us to โ€œtest the spiritsโ€ (1 John 4:1), reminding us that not every spiritual experience is from God. This is where your relationship with God becomes your compass.

When your gifts are grounded in love, truth, and the light of Christ, they are no longer about predictionโ€”they are about revelation, healing, and guidance.

The Role of Intuition in the Christian Life

Letโ€™s talk about intuition and your feelings; they’re really the same thing.

Have you ever felt something deep in your spiritโ€”something you couldnโ€™t explain, but you knew it was true?

That inner knowing is not something to fear. That is the “still small voice” spoken of in 1 Kings 19:12. In 1 Kings 19, Exhausted and discouraged, Elijah reveals Himself not in a mighty wind, earthquake, or fire, but in a “still small voice.” This is often also translated as a small whisper.

Many Christians have been taught to ignore or suppress their intuitive abilities, but intuition can be understood as spiritual sensitivityโ€”a way God communicates through your inner being.

Remember, Jesus Himself said, โ€œMy sheep hear my voice.โ€

That voice doesnโ€™t always come audibly. Sometimes it comes as:

  • A strong feeling
  • A sudden knowing
  • A dream or vision
  • A gentle nudge in your spirit

This isnโ€™t something darkโ€”itโ€™s something sacred, beautiful, peaceful and soothing.

The problem arises when people disconnect intuition from God and begin seeking answers from sources that are not aligned with Him. Traditional Christian teachings often warn against practices like divination or mediumship , but they also affirm that God communicates with His people in supernatural ways.

The difference is the source. A “rose by any other name” is the same source–God Source.

Biblical Examples of Spiritual Insight

If weโ€™re being honest, the Bible is filled with moments that, by todayโ€™s standards, might be labeled โ€œpsychic.โ€

Consider these:

  • Prophets receiving visions of the future
  • Joseph interpreting dreams
  • Daniel gaining supernatural insight
  • Jesus knowing peopleโ€™s thoughts and hearts

These were not coincidences. These were divinely inspired insights.

So why does this matter?

Because it shows us that spiritual perception is not inherently wrongโ€”it becomes misaligned only when it is disconnected from God.

In fact, many believers today are rediscovering that what they once feared may actually be a gift meant to be used responsibly and prayerfully.

We often associate these gifts as occult. Yet, just like there is always darkness when there is light, there is always light where there is darkness. Why wouldn’t God give us the same insightful gifts that are demonstrated in the occult? God is the Creator, after all. AND God is everywhere.

Fear vs. Faith: Breaking Religious Conditioning

For many, the idea of being both Christian and psychic triggers fear.

That fear often comes from years of conditioning:

  • โ€œThis is forbidden.โ€
  • โ€œThis is dangerous.โ€
  • โ€œThis is not of God.โ€

And yesโ€”there are practices that can be harmful when approached without discernment or faith. Even traditional Christian sources warn that seeking guidance outside of God can lead to deception.

But fear should never be the foundation of your spiritual life. I’m talking about practices that bring the opposite of fear. I’m talking about practices that bring healing and peace and bliss. That’s my God.

God calls us to walk in faith, not fear.

If your gifts lead you:

  • Closer to God
  • Deeper into love
  • More aligned with truth
  • More compassionate toward others

Then you are not walking in darknessโ€”you are walking in light.

Christ Consciousness and Spiritual Alignment

Letโ€™s talk about Christ Consciousness.

This is not about replacing Jesusโ€”itโ€™s about embodying His teachings:

  • Love
  • Compassion
  • Forgiveness
  • Truth
  • Divine connection

When you operate from Christ Consciousness, your gifts are no longer about ego or control. They become tools for:

  • Healing broken hearts
  • Bringing clarity to confusion
  • Offering hope in difficult times

This is where a Christian psychic stands apart.

Itโ€™s not about predicting the futureโ€”itโ€™s about helping people align with their highest path under Godโ€™s guidance.

Healing Through Spiritual Insight

One of the most powerful aspects of a Christian psychic reading is healing.

People donโ€™t just seek readings for curiosityโ€”they come because they are:

  • Heartbroken
  • Confused
  • Searching for direction
  • Longing for peace

A reading rooted in faith can provide:

  • Emotional release
  • Spiritual clarity
  • Renewed hope
  • A deeper connection to God

This is not about replacing prayerโ€”itโ€™s about enhancing it.

Think of it as a spiritual conversation where Godโ€™s guidance flows through a compassionate, intuitive channel.

Ethical Responsibility of a Christian Psychic

With spiritual gifts comes responsibility.

A true Christian psychic should always operate with integrity, including:

1. Confidentiality

Your story is sacred and should always be protected.

2. Empowerment

A reading should never create fearโ€”it should uplift and guide.

3. Boundaries

No one should claim absolute control over your future.

4. No Judgment

God meets us with loveโ€”and so should any spiritual advisor.

These principles ensure that your experience is not only accurateโ€”but also safe, respectful, and aligned with faith.

Can You Be Both Christian and Psychic?

So, letโ€™s return to the original question:

Can you be a Christian and a psychic?

The answer depends on how you define both.

If โ€œpsychicโ€ means operating outside of God, then noโ€”that path will feel disconnected and unstable.

But if it means:

  • Using God-given intuition
  • Seeking divine guidance
  • Helping others through spiritual insight
  • Staying rooted in Christ

Then yesโ€”it is absolutely possible.

The key is alignment.

A New Perspective for Modern Believers

We are living in a time where spirituality is evolving.

More people are seeking:

  • Personal connection with God
  • Deeper understanding of their purpose
  • Healing beyond traditional methods

This doesnโ€™t mean abandoning Christianityโ€”it means expanding your understanding of it.

Even within the broader Christian world, there is ongoing debate about psychic practices, with many traditional views cautioning against them while others explore spiritual gifts through a different lens.

You are allowed to seek truth.

You are allowed to question.

And most importantlyโ€”you are allowed to experience God in a way that is real and personal to you.

Experience a Deeper Connection

If youโ€™ve been feeling called to explore your spiritual path more deeply, trust that feeling.

You are not here by accident.

You are here to:

  • Grow
  • Heal
  • Connect
  • Understand

And sometimes, you need guidance along the way.

In conclusion: The merits (or lack thereof) of psychics is a discussion with opinions shared by Christians and non-Christians alike. One, like myself, cannot begin to assume that an argument that is for the use of Christian Psychics can be won in an 1100 word article. My hope, then, is to encourage you to look further into this topic and decide for yourself. All I know is that there are many Christian Psycics out there, and there are many Christians who need help. Think about putting the two together.
