Healing From Past Mistakes: Meditation for Capability and Renewal

The difficulties of life arise when we are unable to process and move forward from past decisions, preventing us from healing from past mistakes. When we allow our minds to stay trapped in regret, we block ourselves from moving forward and seizing new opportunities or chances for growth and evolution.

Capability and Renewal: A Meditation for Healing From Past Mistakes

Why Do We Get Stuck in Regret?

My thoughts are that society has conditioned this response to make us believe our worth or value lies solely in financial success or external achievement. The comparison starts as early childhood conditioning and becomes woven into our identity as we grow into adulthood. The sad, negative part of this is that we begin to forget or devalue everything we have accomplished up to that point.

We begin to see a stranger in our reflection, to despise the current version of self, and create our own state of lack. We begin to devalue our journey. This continues the cycle. These feelings keep us trapped in negativity and lack, rather than allowing us room to process, transmute, and transform. We take on the thought that no matter what we do, we are less than others. Less capable. Less appreciated. Less than worth. When we believe this, we imprison ourselves in negativity.

How Does Regret Impact Daily Life?

When we live in regret, we begin to project these thoughts when encountering others. Our ego mind insists these negative thoughts are behind the glances and interactions we have with others, confirming our fears. We convince ourselves that we will never be good enough or capable enough.

Thus, the hole, the darkness, begins to swallow us. Our mental state darkens our worldly perception. We bury ourselves in doubt, unable to see the light of possibility. Unable to recognize the flame of others willing to walk the journey out of the darkness. We are unable to recognize the light that remains within. Our regret doesn’t just live in memory; it shapes our present experience.

Healing from Past Mistakes

How to Forgive Yourself and Move Forward

First, we forgive our past selves. We recognize that previous versions of ourselves didn’t have the knowledge, experience, or wisdom that we have today. We understand and acknowledge that we are holding our past self to our current expectations, even though those expectations were not available at the time. We begin to recognize that our past self never had the knowledge or understanding of our current self, so holding resentment toward the past creates unnecessary heaviness.

Separate Who You Were From Who You Are

Begin to acknowledge that our past choices are not who we are, but a part of who we once were. They are chapters of our existence, not the whole story. It is time to create a space to give ourselves grace and acceptance. Then we recognize that the self’s imprisonment was created by our ego mind. The part of our mind that locks us into comparison, fear, or anger.

Finally, we move to release those emotions and begin to see the beauty of life again. We start, moment by moment, to see opportunity, alignment, and purpose. Healing from past mistakes takes time, but allows you to reconnect with the beauty in life.

Healing through meditation

It Is Not Always About Self

Our world is shaped by everyone’s unique experiences. Without them, there would be no reason to exist. Every mistake, lesson, and hardship creates depth; not only for you, but for those you will support and inspire. So, if you are hurting in reflection of your past, start the journey of acknowledgment and gratitude. Begin healing from past mistakes. Forgive yourself for decisions. Forgive yourself for not knowing at the time. Forgive yourself for not recognizing the possibilities. Forgive yourself for the imperfect choices you have made.

Give space for gratitude for life experiences, and become grateful for your journey. Begin to see the beauty in each decision as an opportunity to evolve and grow. Allow yourself to connect and empathize with others who are on that same journey that you have survived. When you release ego and conditioning, you create space for gratitude and grace.

You have the power to change the world. That power comes from releasing the ego and conditioning so that you may transition to grace and gratitude. So that healing from past mistakes is possible. If this meditation resonated with you, share it with someone who may need support in releasing the past. Healing multiplies when shared.
